Richard Dreyfuss, 60, is an actor who is most recently known for his role as V.P. Richard Cheney in the Oliver Stone George W. Bush biopic film W. He won an Academy Award for his portrayal in the 1977 movie The Goodbye Girl and was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for the 1995 film Mr. Holland’s Opus.

It seems Dreyfuss made a personal loan to his father and uncle back in 1984 and now he wants his money back and they either don’t have it or don’t feel inclined to pay up. In either case, he’s filed a lawsuit.

It all started back in the mid 80’s when the actor was riding high and doing well in his career when his father Norman Dreyfuss and his uncle Gilbert Dreyfuss came to him needing money. They were apparently in some financial straits with an office building in downtown Los Angeles and asked to borrow $870,000. According to Dreyfuss the loan was made in good faith some 24 years ago. Fast forward to 2008 and the tide has turned.

We are not privy to why it seems critical for Richard Dreyfuss to call in that loan after a quarter of a century but that is exactly what he has done. Uncle Gilbert apparently is the holder of the financial records of the property and he is withholding that information.

The actor is suing the pair for fraud and malice, seeking to recover the initial loan plus interest. He is also seeking punitive damages. Something tells me they won’t all be seated together at Thanksgiving dinner this year.
