Miss USA Curse? Second Fall in Two Years at Miss Universe Pageant (Video)

Miss USA 2008 Crystal Stewart fell at Miss Universe 2008

Miss USA 2008, Crystle Stewart of Texas, as part of the top 10 finalists for the title of Miss Universe 2008, began her turn on the runway during the evening gown competition when she slipped and landed on her backside on stage and nearly slipped a second time. That effectively ended her chances of getting into the top 5 finalists.

Not so last year. Miss USA 2007, Rachel Smith of Tennessee, had a similar fall during evening gown competition. That misstep wasn’t counted against her and she did make it into the top 5 finalists. The good citizens of Mexico were irate and booed and jeered Smith during her final question. She ended up 4th runner up.

The pageant took place in Vietnam. Hosts were Jerry Springer, tabloid talk show host and Mel Brown, a member of The Spice Girls. Both are alumni of the Dancing with the Stars competition. Miss Venezuela 2008, Dayana Mendoza, won the Miss Universe 2008 crown and will live with Miss USA 2008 in a Manhattan apartment for the coming year. That perk is part of the cash and prizes that are awarded to the winner. She will also receive a New York Film Academy scholarship worth $100,000.

  1. They keep smiling but they have on their faces the look of people who know they have screwed the pooch.

Stark warning though: today it’s them, tomorrow it’s us.
