Leona Helmsley’s Pooch Gets Shafted by NY Judge
In August of 2007 luxury hotelier Leona Helmsley passed away. Her will revealed that her beloved pooch Trouble would receive a $12 million trust fund. The heiress left two of her grandchildren with nothing.
The New York Post is reporting that a judge in the New York court system has altered the inheritance and now the white Maltese will have to somehow survive on a mere $2 million. The other $10 million is being given to charity.
Oh, apparently the two grandkids, initially left out of the will, have fallen back into favor, at least with the courts. They will each get $6 million.
Helmsley left instructions in her will to have her cherished canine buried alongside her in the family mausoleum.

hate to say it-the judge had no right to do it. As offensive as it is that this women could be so callous to her grandchildren and generous with her dog-it was HER WILL, HER MONEY and the judge had no right to do this.
Thats kind of bullshit. Another example of Humanities oppressive behavior towards my people. WHEN WILL YOU HUMANS LEARN.
I’m perplexed as to why the courts can change her will. This is pure judicial activism.
Its simple the grand kids wanted the $$$ and got lawyers to bribe/blackmail the judge to turn the monies over to them, im sure if the dog was smart enough to lawyer up and bribe the judge it would still get the money.
Simple fact is the rules are rules, and no NY judge can change someone elses will. but it does happen every once in a while with crooked judges, I think the B&B.com should post the name of the judge so all know who is the one to buyout for legal laws and favors.
How does this add up? $2 million for the dog, $6 million for each of the grandchildren and $10 million for charity. This makes $24 million, not $12 million.
Also, I agree with bp - this was her money to distribute how she chose. She must have been incredibly bitter to not give it to, oh, say PEOPLE, but it was still her say.
I think the dogs and people who work with dogs deserve the money. I agree that expensive lawyers shouldn’t be able to alter a dead person’s wishes, even if that dead person was a complete b*tch. The only thing I don’t understand is how her dog Trouble can use the multiple millions left to him (her?) alone. Fresh-killed dog food?
