Controversial Rachael Ray Dunkin’ Donuts Ad Pulled (Photo)

Rachael Ray in controversial scarf - Dunkin Donuts commercial

Rachael Ray recently shot a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial and a firestorm has erupted to the point where the ad has been pulled. That’s right - DD couldn’t take the heat and decided to get out of the kitchen.

The company canceled an ad in which RR was wearing a scarf that has been identified by her critics as a keffiyeh. For many it symbolizes terrorism. Particularly vocal was ultra conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin who pushed for a Dunkin’ Donuts boycott and wrote in her syndicated column:

The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons.”

At first the donut empire let the complaints go unheeded but eventually bowed to public pressure and released this statement:

In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.”

  2. oh god, get over it! what? because its popular among arabs, a whole uproar has to occur? That scarf is gaining popularity and has nothing to do with “terrorist palestinian jihadist” (which if you dissect its meaning, doesnt exist nor make sense) ppl are stupid. fox especially, is stupid. i think her scarf is adorable.

  3. All that fuss over scarf - calm down America!

  4. Wooooooooooow! this is so stupid. I cant believe that Americans are letting this commercial become such a big deal. It really is truly pathetic how commercials about “natural male enhancement” which are pretty bad compared to this one due to the fact that young children are watching it. there is no need at all for me to go into details about those commercials, but my point is that “America” is making the biggest deal about RR scarf. Poor RR… She probably had no idea that she was a terrorist. Doesn’t living in America mean we can wear what we like to express our individuality? I’m sorry, I don’t quit recall voting for a uniform policy for my country. get over it people. We have wayyyyyyyy bigger problems to worry about instead of focusing on who’s wearing what on a ‘Dunkin Donuts’ commercial. I’m 18 years old and I’m acting more mature then these idiots.

  5. This is so stupid! Yeah that scarf represents an arab terrorist but you know what, it represents her too. She looks cute in that scarf. And if you idiots are dumb enough to blow this more out of porportion, blame her stylist. Don’t blame Rachael. Besides , I have been to an Arab country and it is really out of style there. Just leave her alone and do the commercial. You look good in that scarf rachael.
