Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz were married on Saturday May 17 at her father’s mansion. The wedding photos were reportedly sold to People magazine for $1.4 million. The cover was released on May 21st, and the rest of the wedding photos were available on newsstands Friday May 23.

Our friends at TMZ have an interesting theory as to why Tony Romo attended the nuptials with maid of honor Jessica Simpson, amid reported that the two were no longer dating. The TMZ mole indicates that People magazine’s deal with the bride and groom stipulated that there had to be a photo op with Tony and Jessica.

The rationale behind that tidbit is that nobody is going to buy the wedding photo issue just to see Ashlee and Pete. The couple don’t have the fan base necessary to generate the kind of sales that People magazine requires but exclusive date photos of Tony and Jessica enjoying the wedding festivities is a totally different story.

You will notice that there is an inset photo of the couple on the front of People magazine issue. That was the money shot that People magazine needed to cinch the deal. It would be interesting to know how they talked Romo into coming.
