Whitney Thompson is ANTM and Seventeen Magazine Cover Girl
Whitney Thompson was named America’s Next Top Model on Wednesday and by Thursday she was gracing the cover of Seventeen Magazine’s July 2008 issue. The 20 year old made history because she is the first plus-size winner in the history of the show.
Thompson had this to say about being a plus-size winner:
People always say you have to be stick-skinny, emaciated and unhealthy and I’ve kind of stood up for being full-figured my whole life. I’m not going to lose 50 pounds - if someone asks me to do that, I’ll go to another modeling agency.
Thompson will hit the TV circuit with planned visits to Live with Regis & Kelly and The Early Show in the near future. In addition to her six page fashion spread in Seventeen magazine, she will receive a modeling contract from Elite Modeling.

[…] Whitney Thompson, America’s Next Top Model is Seventeen Magazine’s cover girl - BB […]
She’s borderline chunky… gives great face, but no thank you.
THAT is what they call “plus-sized” these days? Damn, the media and the fashion industry sucks.
How is this plus size?! I would call her normal and as far as her “Seventeen” cover? That looks like one of their covers from the late eighties or early nineties, before the heroin chic look. She looks great, but definitely not plus size!
Just goes to show you how out of touch with reality the fashion world is if they think this girl is a “plus” size model. What is she a size 2 plus one making her a size 3 model? Attractive yes. In the right more realistic direction yes. A long way from the real world YES!
There’s definitely controversy swirling around her win. I heard she was approached by producers and didnt actually audition, she had been modeling for some time and was told if she gained some weight, they’d put her in the top 3 for ANTM.
There are definitely modeling photos of her when she was a lot skinnier so how could she have always been “teased about my weight”?

Thank goodness most people commenting here echo the voice of sanity! How on earth is a size 10 a plus size! Just because this girl has a few normal, womanly curves she is plus size? I think it is beyond ridiculous!
Yikes. This sort of thing makes normal girls feel even worse about themselves. They see this fairly trim woman being praised as “plus-size” and then think, “Well, if that’s plus-size, I must be grossly obese!”
This is terrible.
