Vivid Entertainment, the company that brought you the Pamela Anderson and Kim Kardashian sex tapes, among others, is now releasing a sex tape of deceased guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.

The 45-minute DVD, called “Jimi Hendrix the Sex Tape,” combines 11-minutes of sex footage of a man purported to be Hendrix, with two brunette women.

The authenticity of the film, which has been circulated among Hendrix aficionados for years, is being disputed on the heels of other hoaxes involving celebrity lookalikes. A recent report about the supposed sale of a Marilyn Monroe sex tape was scrutinized when the collectibles dealer who brokered the sale refused to identify the buyer.

Steven Hirsch, Vivid’s co-chairman, said he was convinced that the tape was authentic after tracking down the man who shot the footage, however he declined to identify the man due to a “confidentiality agreement.” The identity of the two women in the film is unknown.

With reports about the Marilyn Monroe sex tape still fresh on the public’s mind, could this strange new attempt to market the sexual exploits of the dead be the start of a trend that will soon have us disputing the authenticity of “newly discovered” tapes of legends such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra or even Princess Diana ? A morbid thought for sure.
