Wesley Snipes Sentenced to Three Years in Prison
Wesley Snipes leaves federal court after sentencing.
Actor Wesley Snipes has received a three-year prison sentence for three counts of willfully failing to file his taxes.
Although Snipes’ attorney argued that the sentence was too stiff for a first-time offender, U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges disagreed, despite character reference letters from three dozen family members and friends, including Denzel Washington and Woody Harrelson. The judge said Snipes exhibited a “history of contempt over a period of time” for U.S. tax laws.
U.S. Attorney Robert O’Neill addressed reporters outside the courthouse, saying, “The sentencing court sends the right message to the American taxpayer — you’ve got to pay your taxes.” “Rich, poor, it doesn’t matter. We all pay our taxes.”

…shouda chekd the attitude…shouda paid the taxes
ask Willie Nelson….
“Rich, poor, it doesn’t matter. We all pay our taxes.”
If only it were true. The richest individuals and corporations do not pay their share. The Cayman islands used to be the stashing grounds of choice; it might be UAE now. Exxon, despite boasting the largest corporate profits ever recorded, still receive tax breaks and subsidies.
Then the fact that INCOME tax primarily is used to pay interest to the Fed makes me sick to my stomach. It doesn’t buy jack squat for the average citizen — it just makes some rich bankers richer.
“A history of contempt over a period of time” is vague legal hogwash. They are making an example out of him so nobody gets any bright ideas.
